It seems so long ago when of the LORD I did inquire.
WHO, gave me a picture in my mind’s eye of a rising spire,
The Lord began to show me my spiritual condition.
By answering in HIS Way to help with my rendition.
A tree it was that HE told me to climb.
Directing me to the end of this arm in time,
Out on one of its strong boughs,
Where it began to branch out to smaller vows.
And where nestled in a leafy canopy was a bird’s nest.
I did, hoping to find to find an end to my quest.
HE said, “Go out to the nest and look in.”
The answer, at long last, a solution to my sin.
Peering over and into the nest HE then asked me,
“What do you see?”
“A newborn bird, having just pecked itself free
With it’s down still wet and it so weak,
From it’s shell striving for life it does seek,
Unable to lift its head.”
To me the LORD then said,
“Dear, you are the bird, weak and dependent,
But because of MY SON for you Whom I sent,
You are saved, safe in MY sheltering nest,
And, I AM the TREE holding you by MY Rest.”
After this I grew closer to the LORD each day.
Then, years and years, later, from HIM I drifted away.
And, today, afraid and watching my life wane,
In anguish I wonder if I dare ask HIM, again.
