Nannette,
I had met a guy at another Christian website recently. His profile raised a red flag, because it included 'name', his occupation as a "pastor", city/ state of the church and the name of the church. The people that I know in leadership are discreet, and wouldn't publicize so much info on a website...I googled his church name..no such church (there was a name that was close but not the exact name..he's a pastor, he should know the name of the church, right?). so I sent him my "scammer only" yahoo address. I asked him, 1)so you'd give me the number to your church and they would know who you are right? I then asked 2)you'd have no problem with me googling your church's name, calling the church and asking for you right? He became upset. He didn't know that i went to zabasearch.com--entered his name, and there wasn't ONE RESULT. not even an old phone number. In the whole US there were only 4 people with his "last name", none in Michigan and none that began with the first initial of his first name in the whole US. He then became suspicious about my being suspicious and became upset, and quickly went on defense...mind you he NEVER acknowledged my two questions. He never challenged me to call the church. He told me he wanted no further communication with me. I was correct he was a scammer. I forwarded his info to romancescam.com to make others aware.

A member asks "how can you meet people out of country if you get to know them well"
So I would like our membership to answer that question. I know a lot of you travel out of country to meet our members, so can you please assist in providing what is necessary and any precautions to take?
I do highly recommend asking them for the name of their pastor and contact information and contacting the pastor. If they belong to a denomination, you can usually find their church online from the denomination's headquarters website. Ask them for the name of their church and do some research before traveling, to make sure you find out if they do indeed attend that church or school or whatever they claim, to make sure they are a church member in good standing and not a scammer.
It's sad we have to go with the guilty until proven innocent theory, but in these times it seems we have to.
God bless,
Nannette
