I've learned to not take it personally when someone does not reply. Their lack of response says far more about them then it does about me.

I think responding is appropriate. In fact I wonder about the Christian walk of those who Do Not respond! Do those who refuse to reply consider themselves superior to others?
One thing that REALLY makes me mad is when people overseas treat me as a walking visa - but I respond to their smiles at least! As for the comment of " You must be a stalker if you want a reply " - twenty years ago people had enough sense NOT to use a poor excuse like that! Rationalizing into existence an excuse like that doesn't strike me as honest Christian behavior!
I personally though do not put personal comments into my replies simply because - in my own case - they may know what's unattractive about themselves...and feel the pain worsen as they hear someone ELSE say what they've been hearing for a long time. I personally am dealing with my being overweight, and I know that people get so hopeless in feeling that they don't try to improve themselves... so I don't risk " twisting the knife ".

I completely agree with the use of the polite reply.
I am new to this site and have had several people send me smiles to which I had responded in a positive manner. Unfortunately, no response was received. It does not leave one with a positive feeling. If you thought enough of me to send me a smile in the first place and then decided later that I was not what you were looking for, please have the courtesy to say so.
Treat others as you would want to be treated.
Thank you for listening.

Perhaps we need a new SMILE that addresses this. Maybe it could read:
"Since I haven't heard back from you it seems that for some reason you're not interested, and I'm sure you're not the type of person to be rude, but it seems a little rude not to respond, don't you think?"
or for New Yorkers:
"hey, whatsa matter u?"
or for Hawaiians:
"hey, you no like?"
or for Californians:
"like, dudette, sup?
lol :-)

I have always responded to all the people that have sent me mail as that is the best way to show love to all of them. You dont have to be friends to every one of them but it sometimes works out that you can become a good friend on this site with both men and women if you so choose. Lots of us want more friends of both genders and that is great. : ) I dont use the one about my interest lies elsewhere as I know it may hurt that man a bit and dont want to cause that. I just say some things of what kind of man I am interested in and that gives them a picture of my intentions and this seems to be working for me. If they wont let me alone, I then say that I am not interested for such reasons in the next note before it goes on too long.
